Pages of the Sea
Thousands of people joined us on Redcar Beach to mark 100 years since Armistice and the end of the first world war.
We produced the event on behalf of Sunderland Culture and 1418 NOW, working with local artists Stuart Langley and Diane Watson to create a huge sand portrait of Private Theophillus Jones, a local man who died in the war.
The project was devised by Danny Boyle and saw communities gather across 32 beaches to say goodbye and thank you to the people who left their shores.
As Regional Producer of Pages of the Sea for Sunderland Culture I was involved in overseeing Danny Boyle's astonishing First World War Armistice commemorative project. This included Sunderland's Roker Beach, Redcar Beach and some involvement in Seahouses Beach. Owing to geography and capacity it was essential that we engaged additional producers to manage the Redcar Beach event and we were able to appoint Stellar Projects to do this for us. Despite the short notice Rachel and Lyndsey were able to quickly and efficiently put in place a local programme to complement the elements created through Danny Boyle's vision. Their local knowledge - of artists, production staff and suppliers was invaluable and they managed all these aspects well. Throughout the project they remained calm, patient and good humoured, resulting in an excellent event which achieved national recognition. I would thoroughly recommend Stellar Projects as Producers and Event Managers and would gladly work with them again if the opportunity arose.
