Happy Rooms ~ Blissed Out

In 2021 we created our very first Happy Room at Festival of Thrift, a joyful space inspired by the magical, playful light which shines as the sun rises. Blissed Out was created by artist Sarah Harris and invited visitors to wander through the space and reimagine that fleeting time of the day early before the rest of the world is awake, that peaceful moment as the sun pours through the cracks. It was a moment to take a breath and be absorbed into your surroundings, a moment when colours were alive and time was ephemeral, but you catch it and hold on…

About Happy Rooms The project explores what happiness is, where it comes from and how it is captured and shared. We are providing four blank walls and asking artists to create their vision of a Happy Room, to bring the space to life as an uplifting, colourful and joyful space for visitors to wander through and enjoy. Blissed Out was the first of many Happy Rooms to come!

About Sarah Harris Sarah started out as a solitary portrait painter and over the years has figured out that she’s driven by working with people and communities, which has helped to provide real meaning to her work and life. She has worked as a community and socially engaged practitioner and has over 10 years’ experience of working in the outdoor arts sector. She gets a buzz about the potential for change, connection and joy that arts experiences can bring. Being creative and around people is what makes Sarah happy – having fun is very important to her, she loves to celebrate people, the everyday and storytelling and is interested in using art as a tool for improving mental wellbeing.
